Corneal Inlays For Presbyopia
The KAMRA Corneal Inlay is a simple, effective treatment for presbyopia. It is a thin disk smaller than a contact lens. It is implanted in the first few layers of the cornea under a flap, which is created using a femtosecond laser (the same laser used to create the flap in All-Laser LASIK). The implant has a pinhole in the center that allows only focused light into the eye. The inlay is implanted in only the non-dominant eye, restoring near vision, while maintaining distance vision. If distance vision is good in the dominant eye, it is left alone. If distance vision needs some correction in the dominant eye, that can be achieved with LASIK or PRK. As a result, the patient enjoys both near vision and distance vision. The inlay is removable if vision needs change. The KAMRA Corneal Inlay differs from monovision in which one eye is corrected for near vision only, while the other eye is corrected for distance.
